Congratulations to Christine Turner whose feature documentary titled Homegoings, was one of 10 projects selected to receive a total of $150,000 in grants towards completing their projects, from the Tribeca Documentary Fund.

There were a reported 630 submissions from more than 40 countries in all.

Turner's seemingly fascintating Homegoings…

… explores the African American funeral home, a 150 year-old institution that is now vanishing. Told through the eyes of a Harlem funeral director and the families he serves, this film tells the intimate stories of families who have lost loved ones and the passionate man behind their funerals.

I'm in! 🙂

Christine already received R&D funds for Homegoings from ITVS and, according to the project's Facebook page, has already found a home on PBS's acclaimed POV documentary series.

Homegoings in currently in post-production. I expect we'll be chatting about this one in 2012.
