Well, it’s about that time folks!
Producer Will Packer and director Tim Story are on a roll with back-to-back hits in “Think Like A Man” in 2012, and “Ride Along” earlier this year -the former grossing an unexpected $91.5 million in box office receipts; and the other, even more surprisingly, topping the coveted $100 million mark ($134.2 million) domestically.
Can they make it a triple, with the upcoming release of “Think Like A Man Too,” the sequel to “Think Like A Man,” which was inspired by Steve Harvey’s best-selling book “Act Like a Lady, Think Like A Man”?
We’ll find out when the film opens in just 2 days, this Friday, June 20, nationwide, on 2,200 screens.
The first film opened on 2,015 screens, taking the top spot with a $33,636,303 box office take. The upcoming sequel will have to battle for the crown this weekend against “22 Jump Street” and “How to Train Your Dragon 2” (both also sequels, by the way).
Box office analysts see an opening for the movie in the $32 million range, indeed beating out its competition (“22 Jump Street” and “How to Train Your Dragon 2″ – both in the second weeks in release; as well as Clint Eastwood’s “Jersey Boys,” although that’s not expected to pose much of a threat to TLAMT).
Variety says that Sony/Screen Gems brass (the distributors of TLAMT) will be content with a debut of “anything in the mid-$20 million range and up, given the film’s low cost.”

As for what the sequel is about: “All the couples are back for a wedding in Las Vegas. But plans for a romantic weekend go awry when their various misadventures get them into some compromising situations that threaten to derail the big event.”
As producer Will Packer previously shared: “We’re excited to follow these beloved characters into the next chapter. The first movie was about our couples coming together. This one is a fun romp which explores whether these relationships can survive against the backdrop of Vegas.”
In addition to the stars from the first film returning (Taraji P. Henson, Michael Ealy, Kevin Hart, Terrence Jenkins, Jerry Ferrara, Romany Malco, Gary Owen, Gabrielle Union, Meagan Good, Regina Hall, Jenifer Lewis, and Wendy Williams), we can add Dennis Haysbert, Adam Brody, Wendi McLendon-Covey and David Walton to the film’s cast.
Tim Story directed from a script penned by Keith Merryman and David A. Newman, who also penned the first film.
Steve Harvey, Rob Hardy and Rushion McDonald return as executive producers.
“Think Like A Man Too” is scheduled for release on June 20, 2014, although it’ll be the opening night film at the 18th annual American Black Film Festival (ABFF) – which now calls New York City home – tomorrow night. So some of you will get to see it a day early.
