During a news conference, school officials announced the administration would honor seven of the nine demands, released by Howard Resist, a student organization on campus.

“Despite the challenges we face and the differences of opinion amongst us, we recognize the importance of coming together to better serve our institution,” Trustee Marie Johns said.

As part of the “statement of commitment,” Howard University has agreed to, extend housing deadlines, develop a task force to help students' with mental illness and support student-led community initiatives. A full list of the agreement can be found here.

This is a step forward and a win for the students at the HBCU. Their peers celebrated the victory on Twitter.

I’m very proud of the student leadership at @HowardU. They organized, brought various coalitions together, stood their ground and now they are on the path towards sustainable change. Cc: @amosjacksonIII @HUResist

When you write about this movement in history, you remember the space that HU Resist made the A Building. The family that formed and grew with time, energy and love. Remember the people. That’s what sat at the heart of this.
