Idris Elba told his millions of Twitter followers on Monday that he tested positive for coronavirus after interacting with someone else who contracted it.

"This morning I tested positive for COVID-19. I feel ok, I have no symptoms so far but have been isolated since I found out about my possible exposure to the virus. Stay home people and be pragmatic. I will keep you updated on how I’m doing. No panic," Elba said while sitting next to his wife Sabrina Dhowre.

Some people on Twitter noted that just days ago, Elba interacted with Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, the wife of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau who tested positive for COVID-19 three days ago.

Elba urged the public to take the virus seriously and said people need to think seriously about social distancing and washing their hands.

"Beyond that, there are people out there who aren't showing symptoms and they can easily spread it. So now is the time to be really vigilant about washing your hands and keeping your distance. Transparency is probably the best thing for this right now. If you're feeling ill or feel like you should be tested or you've been exposed, you should do something about it," he said.

"We live in a divided world right now, we can all feel it. Now is the time for solidarity, now is the time for thinking about each other. There are so many people whose lives have been affected, from those who have lost people that they love to people who don't even have it but have lost their livelihoods. This is real," Elba added.

Other stars like Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson and former Bond girl Olga Kurylenko have tested positive for coronavirus in the last week as the pandemic continues to spread across the world.
