Idris Elba is closing out the year with a message proponents of the #MeToo movement have greeted with love.

In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, Elba was asked whether he feels it is difficult to be a man in Hollywood during an era of #MeToo activism. The movement saw women speaking out against suffering sexual misconduct abuse at the hands of powerful men such as movie mogul Harvey Weinstein and CBS executive Les Moonves. As Blavity reported, the social justice movement was begun by a Black woman, Tarana Burke, 10 years ago.

Some men, such as President Donald Trump, have decried the #MeToo movement. According to The Washington Post, Trump called #MeToo 'very dangerous' for men.

Elba, however, disagrees.

“It’s only difficult if you’re a man with something to hide,” Elba said.

On Twitter, he was applauded by many for his straight take on the issue, including by his colleagues in the entertainment industry:

The #MeToo movement began with Burke's work with healing groups in 1998. The activist coined the term in 2006 as a way to encourage survivors of sexual violence to share their experiences, according to The Chicago Tribune.

The phrase went around the world in 2017 when actress Ashley Judd accused Weinstein of misconduct and when actress Rose McGowan used #MeToo when discussing her allegations.
