New York, NY (June 8, 2012) This year marks 10 years of ImageNation Outdoors being New York’s only summer long festival exclusively dedicated to films and music from throughout the global African diaspora. Continuing to blaze new trails and expand their horizons, this year ImageNation has announced a new partnership with SummerStage and plans to open a new boutique cinema in Harlem that will solely be dedicated to Black Soul Cinema. In addition ImageNation is highly honored to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of South Africa’s African National Congress (ANC) in Central Park.
ImageNation Outdoors recently kicked off the 2012 season with a collaborative SummerStage showing of the highly acclaimed Brooklyn Boheme and a live performance by Brooklyn’s own Talib Kweli, Jean Grae, Pharoahe Monch, and Jah Stix in Bed Stuy’s Von King Park. Upcoming highlights of the 2012 season include the much talked about films Pariah, the Bob Marley documentary Marley, DJ Bobbito’s new film Doin It In the Park, the Tribe Called Quest documentary Beats, Rhymes, & Life and the Latin animated film Chico and Rita. Most of the film showings will be accompanied by DJs and live music including a special tribute to Don Cornelius and performances by Goapele, Yerbabuena, Bobby Sanabria, Game Rebellion and others.
In celebration of their anniversary and expansion plans to open The Soul Cinema, ImageNation has also dubbed this 2012 season, The Summer of Soul. The Summer of Soul fundraising campaign will be a capital campaign to open its first cinema that will be a permanent space dedicated to the ImageNation mission. Summer of Soul fundraiser initiatives will include a KickStarter Campaign and opportunities for supporters to text pledges during the outdoor series.
In total ImageNation will showcase sixteen over fifteen dates. Below is the 2012 ImageNation Outdoors Schedule.
