Ice-T's documentary (and directorial debut) fully titled Something From Nothing: The Art Of Rap, made its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, and was recently acquired by Indomina in a world rights deal.

As previously noted, Indomina is "planning a meaningful theatrical release in the early summer" which actually surprises me a little. I had it pegged as a cable TV release.

The Indomina Group announced today, Friday, that it will release Ice-T's rap documentary in North America on June 8.

In the film, Ice-T engages several of rap’s most influential artists in conversation about the craft of rapping – among them Chuck D, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Eminem, MC Lyte, Mos Def, and Kanye West – with the goal being to explore the roots and history of rap, and reveal the creative process behind the global art form… at least, that's how it's being sold, but that's not quite what I got out of it.

I saw the film at Sundance and wasn't much impressed by it; Or maybe I should say that I went in expecting one kind of documentary, and instead got something entirely different. But you can read me review of the film HERE to get more of my POV.

Still, congrats to Ice on the pickup and now the official release date.
