The impact of seeing a Black man get emotional publicly has no bounds, and watching Insecure actor Sarunas Jackson choke up talking about his father’s love of being a dad is sure to inspire much-needed conversations.

The emotional moment happened on an episode of the Good Moms Bad Choices podcast. The 32-year-old immediately choked up when the hosts asked about his dad.

“Ugh my dad,” he started. “The way he loves being a father.”

The actor paused, wiping away tears. He then shared a childhood memory of his father that later influenced how he raised his children.

“He said he saw his friend with his dad one time when he was 5 or 6, and his friend was on his dad’s lap and they were laughing,” he recounted. “His [friend’s] dad was just with him all lovey and my dad was like, ‘Oh wow, damn I don’t have that,’ and it made him sad.”

Jackson said his dad’s friend and his father thought that their affection was “bothering him,” but it was quite the opposite.

The actor said his father’s journey has taught him that “it’s very possible to change the course of your life.”

The Good Moms Bad Choices podcast shared the clip on its Instagram, accompanying it with a caption about how important Jackson’s perspective is.

“Last weeks episode had so many beautiful moments including @ronejae discussing his father and how he was able to break the cycle of not getting love from his parents and giving all the love to Sarunas and his siblings,” the caption read. “To see a man get vulnerable about fatherhood is refreshing and very needed in our community. The reason we chose to highlight black fathers this month was to show their range and highlight their strengths. This moment was definitely that!”
