Pastor Jamal Bryant has called on U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi to uphold her recent remarks about protecting houses of worship based on a recent incident that happened at a church in Minnesota, by arresting an unidentified preacher who protested in the lobby of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church last month.
What did Jamal Bryant say about a man protesting at his church?
Bryant addressed the incident in a recent episode of his Let’s Be Clear podcast, stating how the preacher, who is white, and his wife filmed themselves walking into the church.
As the man walked further down near the entryway of the sanctuary, he began hurling insults about Bryant and his congregation, his preaching style, and that he and his members were going to hell if they did not repent and submit to Jesus Christ.
“This white evangelical nationalist pastor had the audacity, he and his wife, to get out of his car … and for propaganda and disturbance, filmed themselves coming into our church using hate speech, condemning us with wrath, judgment and correction,” Bryant explained, addressing his grievance to Bondi in the nearly seven-minute video. “And since you are against places of worship being disturbed, and this gentleman attempted to do it at a Black church. I want to know when is the arrest warrant?”
Bondi on protests in churches: ‘We are coming after you’
Bryant’s demand for the man’s arrest comes after Bondi announced last week in a post shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, that she ordered the arrest of Don Lemon and other journalists and activists over an anti-ICE protest at a Minnesota church on Jan. 18, Blavity reported.
“At my direction, early this morning federal agents arrested Don Lemon, Trahern Jeen Crews, Georgia Fort, and Jamael Lydell Lundy, in connection with the coordinated attack on Cities Church in St. Paul, Minnesota,” Bondi wrote in the Jan. 30 post.
In a separate post, Bondi threatened to prosecute anyone who prevents churchgoers from “freely” worshipping at their respective churches by protesting on or inside the property.
“Make no mistake, under President Trump’s leadership and this administration, you have the right to worship freely and safely,” Bondi said in the video posted to X. “And if I haven’t been clear already, if you violate that sacred right, we are coming after you.”
Bryant responds to those downplaying racial differences in the incidents
Byrant addressed the issue further, stating that if there are no racial issues, the man who disrupted his church service should be taken into custody.
“If you all are saying it’s not a Black or white issue, within 72 hours, the man who attempted to disrupt worship at New Birth should be arrested and, at the very least, should have a warrant. But y’all don’t want to talk about that,” he concluded in the podcast clip.
