As they say everything old is new again (or is it everything new is old again), but whatever the correct phrase is, Showtime at the Apollo is making a comeback.
last week, at a benefit party for Harlem education programs held at billionaire Ronald Perleman’s East Hampton estate (well la de da), Jamie Foxx announced to attendees that he would be bringing the popular synidicated TV show, which ran from September 1987 to May 2008, as the excective producer of the series for BET.
As he told the audience: “The Apollo did it long before ‘American Idol”; and that is certainly true. He also revealed he once was booed off the Apollo stage very early in his career as comedian. Obviously that didn’t keep him down for long.
