Jamie Foxx delivered a heartfelt message to his supporters on Friday as he reflected on the health challenges he has been facing in recent months. The iconic entertainer fought back tears as he thanked his doctors, family and fans who been showing him love.

“I cannot even begin to tell you how far it took me and how it brought me back,” Foxx said in his Instagram video as he showed gratitude for all the prayers and messages he received.

The Hollywood star also explained why he chose to stay silent while the public continued to wonder about his condition.

“I know a lot of people were waiting or wanting to hear updates but to be honest with you, I just didn’t want you to see me like that man,” he said. “I want you to see me laughing, having a good time partying, cracking a joke, doing a movie, television show. I didn’t want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was gonna make it through.”

Referring to some of the speculations, including rumors suggesting that he was blind or paralyzed, Foxx said none of that is true.

“As you can see, the eyes are working, the eyes are working just fine,” he said. “I’m not paralyzed, but … I went to hell and back, and my road to recovery had some potholes as well. But I’m coming back and I’m able to work.”

As Blavity previously reported, fans became concerned about the beloved actor when his daughter Corinne Foxx revealed in April that he has been hospitalized due to an “undisclosed medical condition.”

“We wanted to share that, my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday, [April 11],” Corinne wrote in a post, according to Deadline. “Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery.”

Corinne went to Instagram again in May to shut down reports suggesting that her father’s health has worsened.

“Update from family: Sad to see how the media runs wild,” Corinne wrote on her Instagram Story. “My Dad has been out of the hospital for weeks, recuperating. In fact, he was playing pickleball yesterday! Thanks for everyone’s prayers and support!”

Fans were relieved earlier this month when Foxx was seen waving to fans as was sailing along the Chicago River on a boat. The 55-year-old star was also spotted at a Topgolf establishment in Naperville, Illinois a short time later.

“I love everybody and I love all of the love that I got,” Foxx said in his video on Friday. “If you see me out from now on and every once in a while I just burst into tears, it’s just because it’s been tough, man. I was sick, man. But now I got my legs under me, so you’re gonna see me out.”
