Janelle Monáe is known for her killer pipes and eclectic style. However, her acting talent has opened up more opportunities to shine on the big screen.

She gained critical acclaim and nominations for several major awards for her role in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. 

Over the last few months, her red carpet looks have been 10s across the board, but one Twitter user wanted to bring up some of her prior wardrobe choices.

The hilarious exchange has some fans upset because they are dying for more music from the star.

“janelle monae finally showing off how fine she is instead of dressing like the monopoly man,” they wrote in a viral tweet.

Some viewers agreed with the fan’s critique.

“She wasted a lot a years dressed like the WB frog,” one user replied.

“I remember reading them say this in an interview a loooong time ago! glad they’ve finally changed their mind,” another added.

But others weren’t as supportive of their stances.

“Lmao it really goes to show how much y’all don’t really be listening to these artists. There was a reason for her aesthetic and she been lookin amazing outside of that look for years now,” one explained.

“The point she was making was to focus on the art first. I’ve been following her since she was doing demo tapes and no one knew who she was,” another echoed.

Eventually, Monáe entered the chat, dropping a decision that upset many fans.

“35.7k likes?? No new tour. hope it was worth it beloved,” she wrote with a kiss emoji, surely symbolizing the kiss of death.

Fans were horrified at Monáe’s fighting words.

“WAIT NOW HOLD ON,” one wrote.

“ITS THE BOTS PLS DONT DO THIS,” another pleaded.

And, of course, Monáe’s fans ran to the tweet that started it all to condemn the critical user.

One viewer kept it simple with a meme.

The critical user responded, letting viewers know her original message was not shade.

Monáe retweeted the user’s latest message with a compliment, writing, “Monopoly man?? 😭 You’re pretty and funny. 😘” 

So Monáe fans, you can take a deep breath; it seems the singer took the ordeal for what it was, and the road to new music isn’t blocked.
