Jazmine Sullivan was forced to cancel her set at the Leimert Park Juneteenth Festival in Los Angeles on Monday after an alleged stampede broke out. The singer shared a statement addressing the incident, telling fans she was disappointed to have to cancel her performance.

“I hope everyone made it home to their loved ones tonight!” Sullivan wrote in an Instagram Story, HotNewHipHop reported. “I’m so disappointed we couldn’t come together and celebrate Juneteenth! If you’re still at the park please leave. The show is cancelled 😭.”

According to Vibe, the Grammy winner attended sound check earlier in the day, and while she didn’t detail why she decided to cancel her set, it’s assumed it was due to turmoil in the crowd, which multiple attendees attested to.

The festival’s lineup, including Wale, Too Short, BLK ODYSSY, Alex Vaughn, Kalan.FrFr, DJ Hed and Sullivan, drew in a massive crowd. Those who couldn’t make it in person could join via livestream on Amazon Music, which also hosted the festival.

The streamer abruptly announced on the livestream that the event was over, leaving fans at home confused. According to attendees on Twitter, an alleged shooting is what led to the stampede. Others, however, say it was due to a lack of crowd control.

“I didn’t even get to see Wale & Jazmine Sullivan b/c somebody decided to start a shootout/fight in Leimert park. I was scared for my life. I had a whole panic attack,” an attendee tweeted.

“I could have stayed at home and not worked on Juneteenth if I knew y’all was gonna act up right be for Jazmine Sullivan. Come on Leimert Park fam,” another added.

One user, who watched Sullivan during her sound check performance, was also disappointed the “Pick Up Your Feelings” vocalist canceled her performance.

They tweeted, “we were robbed of seeing Jazmine Sullivan perform at Leimert Park Juneteenth, but here she is at sound check earlier today 😂 Her performance was great!”
