The overflow of music in December (let alone 2016) continues with many artists releasing projects today. From the controversial J.Cole to the debut album by Charles Hamilton, there’s something for everyone going into this weekend.
Ab-Soul is finally back. After a bit of drama in the Top Dawg Entertainment camp, the self-proclaimed "Black Lip Bastard" has returned with Do What Thou Wilt. This is an important album for fans because some saw his previous release,These Days, as a letdown, while others are still holding out for a return to his Control System form. Who knows which one we’ll get, but you can find out below.
Despite not officially releasing a new song in two years since his critically acclaimed Forest Hills Drive, the North Carolina emcee has managed to stay in the spotlight. Whether through chants of “double platinum with no guest features” or through arguments on your Twitter timeline, everyone has an opinion on the Dreamville emcee. Ten tracks deep, you can form your own opinion of J.Cole below.
I heard about this release through the grapevine, but Pro Era emcee CJ Fly has dropped his sophomore effort FlyTrap. An integral part of Pro Era’s ascension, CJ Fly released his debut back in 2013. I personally enjoyed the laid-back flows mixed with the sample-based production, but I’m sure three years later we’re bound to get something completely different. Jump into FlyTrap below.
The-Dream is also back with his new Love You To Death EP. I can’t front, I haven’t listened to too much of The-Dream’s music. However, if you cycle back to earlier this year, he had key contributions to Kanye West’s "Ultralight Beam" and "Highlights," two songs that were well-received from The Life of Pablo. Check out the stream below and let me know what you think!
Lastly, veteran Charles Hamilton has finally released his debut album Hamilton, Charles. Hamilton has done work with B.O.B, Mickey Factz, XV and more. Truth be told, this is my sleeper pick for the weekend. See if Charles Hamilton comes through as you can stream his album below.
