Jeffrey Wright has joined the cast of Allen Hughes' reported $60 million crime thriller Broken City, which already stars Mark Wahlberg, Russell Crowe, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Barry Pepper and others.

In the New York City-set film, described as a noir-style drama, Wahlberg stars as an ex-cop turned private detective who is hired by a local powerful politician (played by Crowe) to see if his wife is cheating on him. When the mayor's wife's cheating partner ends up dead, the private eye immerses himself in the mayor's business and uncovers a real estate scandal that involves dealing himself choice city-owned properties.

Jeffrey Wright will play the city's police commissioner who has a "complicated history" with the Crowe's powerful politician.

The film is scheduled for a January 2013 release by 20th Century Fox, so we've still got some time to wait for this one.

Jeffrey Wright was last seen in George Clooney's Ides of March, which is still in theaters. Up next for him is a role in Stephen Daldry's Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, which opens over the X-mas holiday.

This is the first time Wright and Hughes have hooked up on a project.
