Last week, Shadow and Act learned that Taye Diggs, Morris Chestnut, Trey Songz, Lauren London, Tia Mowry and Djimon Hounsou were all in contention for parts in playwright/director David E. Talbert's rom-com, Baggage Claim, for Fox Searchlight, based on his best-selling debut novel about a flight attendant with thirty days and thirty thousand miles to find a husband.
Humor Mill is now reporting that Jill Scott and J Cole are also in the mix for parts in the film adaptation.
The project already boasts Paula Patton, Derek Luke, and Octavia Spencer as cast members, with Patton playing our husband-seeking flight attendant; we aren't privy to what roles have been assigned to other cast members (Diggs, Chestnut, Songz, London, Mowry, Scott, Cole and Hounsou, assuming they sign on to join the cast; as well as the already cast Luke and Spencer).
Maybe those who've read the novel can make some guesses.
Here's the synopsis for Baggage Claim:
Pledging to keep herself from being the oldest and the only woman in her entire family never to wed, Montana embarks on a thirty-day, thirty-thousand-mile expedition to charm a potential suitor into becoming her fiancé. Whom will she choose? Damon Diesel, a P. Diddy wannabe; Reverend Curtis P. Merewether, pastor of Greater House of Deliverance, Tabernacle of Praise, Worship, and Miracles; pompous attorney-turned-councilman Langston Jefferson Battle III; or Quinton Jamison, a multimillionaire who's twenty years her senior?
We can assume that 4 of the 6 mentioned actors (Luke, as well as Diggs, Chestnut, Songz, Cole and Hounsou, if cast) could play any one of those 4 potential suitors for Montana, as described in the synopsis.
The cast should be finalized very soon, as the project is scheduled to begin principal photography in October.
