Jimi Hendrix Park is almost ready for visitors after 10 years of building and development.
The park was constructed with the help of $200,000 awarded from King County and a fundraising campaign that allowed supporters to donate to the cause – and now the last phase of construction has been fully provided for, and the park is expected to open on August 27th.
Jimi Hendrix Park is very rock and roll intrinsic, soaking up the spirit of the prolific artist and infusing it into the edifice of the place itself. Many of the structures and much of the artwork is based on Hendrix’s career as well as the time he spent growing up in the same neighborhood.
Check out a map of what the park will look like:
Built on the grounds of what used to be the Colman School, the park is 2 and a half acres of grass and plant life at 25th Ave and S Massachusetts St. in Seattle, WA. Official Hendrix t-shirts are still being sold to help sustain the park foundation after it’s opened. The foundation also hopes to use the park’s space to hold outdoor music related events and concerts in the belief that it’s what Jimi would have wanted in honor of his legacy.
