The Nollywood New York Film Series, organized by the Yoruba Cultural Institute and MediAfritiQ, will host the USA premieres of two recent Nigerian hit movies – Phone Swap (by Kunle Afolayan) and Finding Mercy (by Desmond Elliot).
Included in the series, which celebrates “Nollywood At 20,” will be a panel discussion on that subject, featuring actor/producer/activist Gbenga Akinnagbe, veteran Nollywood screen diva and human rights advocate, Stella Damasus; Mojisola Sonoiki, founder and director of WOCAF Festival; Iroko Partners business development officer, Oluchi Enuha; NYU professor of Drama and Filmmaker Dr. Awam Amkpa; and yours truly, Shadow and Act’s Tambay Obenson.
The entire event, which will include helpings of delicious Nigerian cuisine (I’m looking forward to some jollof rice to start), takes place this Saturday, October 12, 2013 from 4 to 8 pm, at the Studio Museum in Harlem (NYC).
