Bison fans will be excited to learn that Howard University has just recently inked a 2-decade-long partnership with Jordan Brand.

The news came earlier this month, though Boardroom reported that the Washington, D.C., HBCU was slated to ink a partnership with Jordan Brand way back in May.

This collaboration will be centered around Jordan Brand working to “elevate Howard University’s athletic department” while simultaneously working to bring about new opportunities for students to excel. Additionally, the footwear giant notes in its announcement that the partnership “deepens Jordan Brand’s connection to HBCU culture.”

“Howard University and Jordan Brand share a legacy of excellence and deep commitment to the Black Community. As a HBCU graduate, I understand the educational impact an institution like Howard University has. We are proud to partner with Howard University and see the growth in Black talent on the field and well beyond it,” Jordan Brand President Craig Williams said in the Jordan Brand statement.

“We have always been proud of our legacy at Howard University, but we are audacious enough to believe our future could be brighter than our past. Partnering with Jordan Brand is another signal of our ambitions as a university to become an even brighter beacon for Black Excellence. We are thrilled to work on that vision of greatness together,” Dr. Wayne A.I. Frederick, president of Howard University, added in the announcement.

Notably, Jordan Brand will also supply Howard’s athletics department with brand-new “Jumpman uniforms,” which will be unveiled later this month. There’s also plenty of apparel that the company exclusively made for Howard, which the university showed off on Instagram.

“This partnership amplifies the culture of champions we are building at Howard,” Kery Davis, Howard’s athletic director, quipped in the statement. “After winning multiple MEAC Championships last year, we are poised to continue with Jordan Brand by our side.”

Jordyn Allen, president of the Howard University Student Association, also spoke positively of this partnership, noting that Jordan Brand and the HBCU will work together to “make a difference.”

“HBCUs have been impacting culture since the beginning. Now we see a new era on the horizon, and an opportunity with Jordan Brand to introduce Howard University to the world,” she said in the press release.

“I’m excited to see our university collaborate with a partner like Jordan Brand that already means so much to the Black Community. Together, we have the power to make a difference and inspire the next generation of students to do the same,” Allen continued.

At this point, it’s worth noting that this game-changing partnership follows Michael Jordan’s 2020 commitment to donating $100M to “organizations dedicated to ensuring racial equality, social justice and greater access to education” by 2030.
