Veteran journalist and newscaster, Gwen Ifill, has passed away. Ifill's extensive resume includes having worked at The Washington Post, The New York Times, and NBC News. She was the moderator of PBS's Washington in Review and the co-host of NewsHour. She was one of the first women to co-host a nightly news show. Ifill, who was set to receive the 2016 John Chancellor Award from Columbia University this Wednesday, is known also for moderating debates during the presidential elections. Last year, she moderated the primary debate between Sen. Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton.
She was known to keep it very real.
Many have taken to Twitter to celebrate the life of Ifill, who lost her battle to cancer Monday morning surrounded by friends and family.
Gwen Ifill was an icon and a trailblazer. She left a trail for women of color to follow. She will be greatly missed on our screens and in our hearts.
