Rapper and activist Killer Mike was at the center of a media whirlwind recently; it all began when he appeared on NRA TV defending black gun ownership. He received backlash from the black community immediately; among his critics was MSNBC's Joy Ann Reid.

Still salty from the criticism, Killer Mike posted a heated comment under one of Reid's Instagram photos in which she referenced her "H&M." Killer Mike incorrectly assumed she meant H&M clothing brand that recently came under fire for its "Coolest Monkey in the Jungle" apparel, and tried to drag her. The acronym actually meant "hair and makeup;" Reid even mentioned her stylists in the caption.

In a nutshell, Mike was roasted by Reid in a classy, yet biting clap-back. Killer Mike later apologized, and noted he was looking forward to a discussion with Reid on her show, AM Joy. We all waited with bated breath.

That time has arrived. Last weekend, Killer Mike appeared on the show, and apologized once again to Reid, saying he "admired" and "is a fan of" hers. He also touched on his NRA TV appearance.

“I’m sorry that an organization like the NRA has sunk to levels of all of us,” Mike said. “All of us have become very petty. What I did was petty. It could be argued what other people from the left and right did was petty.”

He did, however, reiterate that he fully believes that black people should own guns to "defend ourselves."

As they further discussed the complexities of black gun ownership, Reid touched upon the recent Philadelphia Starbucks incident, putting a hypothetical situation before Killer Mike. The host asked Mike what he thought would have happened had the two men been carrying legal firearms.

Mike was hesitant before stating "I think black men are in danger from law enforcement because we need better policing."
