Donda Academy is embroiled in scandal yet again. Former employees who claim the Kanye “Ye” West-backed school fired them in retaliation for reporting code violations are suing.

The plaintiffs, Cecilia Hailey and Chekarey Byers, were the only Black female educators at the academy, Complex reported. They claim the school hired them as full-time teachers in January, and their expulsion occurred just two months later, shortly after they shared concerns over alleged “unlawful and unsafe practices.”

While working at Donda Academy, Hailey and Byers accused the school of not following state regulations “for students in need of educational services, additional testing, or individualized learning plans,” Entertainment Tonight reported.

They also said the school hadn’t hired a nurse or janitor or employed security precautions to keep the students safe. Hailey and Byers also alleged the school lacked a “proper disciplinary system,” which led to extreme bullying and multiple incidents of physical assault.

Rolling Stone reported Hailey also shared she filed three complaints against the school’s principal/director, Moria Love, claiming Love referred to Hailey and Byers as “aggressive” for just doing their jobs.

“Plaintiffs believe this type of comment facilitates stereotypes about African-American women as being confrontational simply for doing their job and voicing their legitimate concerns in order to provide a safe environment and proper education for their students,” the lawsuit states.

Hailey said she was “threatened not to reach out” to West.

The lawsuit continues to explain how Donda Academy allegedly neglected the students and them; many of their accounts are disturbing. For example, according to Complex, the school’s rules and regulations are questionable at best — West reportedly banned things like crossword puzzles, coloring sheets, wall art and even lunch forks. He also forced students and staff to wear an all-black uniform from a particular designer brand.

“Kanye West is clearly as bad at running a school as he is at managing his own personal and professional life, enabling an unsafe and illegal school environment for students that also discriminated against the plaintiffs based on their race,” Hailey and Byers’ attorney, Ron Zambrano, said in a press release. “These egregious violations at Donda Academy are just another example of West’s unusual behavior, and our clients just won’t stand for it, no matter his celebrity status. Kanye needs to realize his genius is in creating music, not in school administration.”

Allegedly, teachers and students are barred from going outside at any point during the day at Donda Academy. Hailey and Byers claim the rule is so extreme, educators were locked in from the outside to ensure they stayed inside the building. Plus, due to Kanye’s alleged fear of stairs, all classes were held on the ground floor, according to the lawsuit.

The school also allegedly banned jewelry, chemical cleaning products, and chairs, leaving students to figure out how to sit during lessons if they didn’t want to stand.

In addition, the lawsuit states the school does not allow outside food and drink except water.

“It was widely known that Defendant West spends $10,000.00 a week on sushi,” the complaint states.

According to the suit, Donda Academy required its teachers to follow outlandish rules but didn’t maintain that same professionalism regarding their paychecks. As a result, Hailey and Byers say their checks were late or inaccurate on multiple occasions. They seek damages related to emotional distress, plus unpaid wages, loss of earnings and deferred compensation. In addition to West, the suit lists Donda Academy directors Brianne Campbell, Allison Tidwell and Chris Julian as co-defendants.
