We’ve learned that Hurt Village, the forthcoming play from The Mountaintop scribe Katori Hall, is seeking to fill lead roles for its Off-Broadway production.
Hurt Village centers on a family trying to rekindle relationships around the father’s return from Iraq and the family’s move out of a Memphis housing project.
Principal characters include:
A young father, a soldier returning home from the Iraq War with a haunting secret
The precocious and gifted teenage daughter he tries to reconnect with
The young girl’s mother, a hard-nosed former drug addict
A great-grandmother who serves as the matriarch of the family
As well as the various characters that inhabit the family’s lives and community.
You may recall from Tambay’s post back in the spring that Hall was chosen to workshop Hurt Village in this year’s Sundance Screenwriters Lab, which likely means that a film adaptation is coming soon.
We’ll keep you posted as we hear more.
