Keke Palmer’s boyfriend, Darius Jackson, opened up about the couple’s relationship in a recent interview before he publicly shamed the actress for her outfit choice at an Usher concert.

In the latest episode of Baby, This is Keke Palmer podcast, the 29-year-old asked Jackson how he felt about revealing their relationship to the public. Entertainment Tonight reported that Palmer’s mom, Sharon, was also featured in the episode as the couple discussed maintaining privacy in their relationship. Though the episode is new, it was conducted before the viral comments.

“At first, it definitely was hard because it could all be very overwhelming. It was definitely overwhelming and intense at first,” he said.

“It was,” Palmer agreed.

Jackson also stated he felt the “pressure” to be perfect after their romance was in the spotlight.

“And it’s like, you almost feel that pressure of needing to be perfect. And so, it really confused me and infiltrated my mind because not only did I have to hold myself to that perfect standard, I was also holding you to a perfect standard as well,” Jackson explained.

He continued: “So, any moment of flaw on my side or on your side it was World War III because it’s like…”

“And now the world sees us,” the Nope actress interjected.

Sharon told Jackson and Palmer the key to a long-lasting relationship is to conserve their “respect” for each other.

“How you maintain relationships is never lose respect,” she said. “Gotta watch what you say. There’s a line, don’t cross those lines. You have to have respect.”

The couple has been together for nearly two years after going public with their relationship in 2021. They welcomed their first child, son Leondis Andrellton Jackson, in February. However, after Jackson’s Twitter rant last week, the two appear to be on different terms.

As Blavity reported, Jackson publicly shamed Palmer for wearing a tight Black bodysuit underneath a sheer polka-dot dress at Usher’s residency in Las Vegas. He responded to the controversial outfit in a viral video of the entertainer serenading Palmer to his hit single “There Goes My Baby.”

“It’s the outfit tho..you a mom,” Jackson tweeted in response to the clip.

Twitter users called out Jackson for publicly addressing an issue that should have been kept private. The extensive criticism led Jackson to deactivate his account temporarily, removing all photos associated with Palmer from his Instagram account. The two no longer follow each other on the social platform.

Meanwhile, Palmer has yet to respond to Jackson’s social media outburst.

Last week, she shared a video of her singing a rendition of Stevie Wonder’s “Isn’t She Lovely” to baby Leondis. In the post’s caption, she also promoted her new line of merch with “I’M A MOTHA” and “Stevie Wonder to the bulls**t” available for purchase on her website, per Blavity.
