Kelis didn’t mince her words when she went to Instagram on Thursday to air out her beef with Beyoncé. The drama started when Beyoncé sampled Kelis’ 2003 track, “Milkshake” in her “Energy” track, Complex reports.
Venting on Instagram, Kelis said it would have been “common decency” for Beyoncé and her team to reach out and let her know they were planning to sample the song.
“The issue is not only are we female artists, Black female artists, in an industry that there’s not that many of us — we’ve met each other, we know each other, we have mutual friends. It’s not hard, she can contact me,” the singer said in the Instagram video.
While continuing her rant, Kelis said, “It’s not about me being mad at Beyoncé.”
“She’s one issue because it was stupid and disrespectful and she should have at least reached out,” Kelis said before calling out Pharrell and Chad Hugo, who are also credited for the song.
The artist described Hugo as an “amoeba.” She then said Pharrell purposely stole the song, taking a “direct hit” at her.
“He’s spineless. It’s a miracle he can keep his neck up,” she said about Hugo. “But Pharrell knows better. This is a direct hit at me, he does this stuff all the time. It’s very petty — very, very, very — and the reality is that it’s frustrating. I have the right to be frustrated. Why? Because no one had the human decency to call and be like, ‘Yo, hey, would like to use your record.’ Which, by the way, is the reason I’m annoyed because I know it was on purpose.”
Kelis also expressed her thoughts in the comment section after an Instagram fan page announced the news.
“Beyonce’s RENAISSANCE album will include a kelis sample on the song ‘Energy,'” the fan page wrote, adding a mind-blown emoji.

The singer then used her cooking Instagram page to reply to the post.
“My mind is blown too because the level of disrespect and utter ignorance of all 3 parties involved is astounding,” she wrote on Instagram. “I heard about this the same way everyone else did. Nothing is ever as it seems, some of the people in this business have no soul or integrity and they have everyone fooled.”
