For his 35th birthday, Kendrick Lamar partnered with Spotify to release a mini-documentary about his trip to Ghana. A Day in Accra, Ghana, released on Friday, shows Lamar visiting children at a skatepark, playing games on the streets, observing the city’s busy life and sharing words of wisdom.

“I can’t even tell you what day it is. I’m just living in the moment,” the Grammy-winning rapper says in the video, chatting with Carl Chery, Spotify’s head of urban music and creative director, according to okayplayer.

While visiting Virgil Abloh’s Ghana Freedom skatepark, Lamar said it’s special for young people to be able to enjoy the space created by the iconic designer, who died in 2021. The rapper also talked about finding relief in Ghana as he steps away from all the noise on social media.

Lamar dove into deeper subjects as he traveled through the streets of Accra. Speaking about therapy, the 35-year-old said Black men face a challenge with mental health because “our parents, our grandparents don’t know about that.”

“You live and you experience the s**t that you go through and you deal with it right there and then or you don’t,” he said. “We learned to hold all our s**t in.”

Sitting down with a group of young Black men in Accra, Lamar said he still struggles to get therapy, but he challenges himself to break out of old habits.

“It’s like a whole new step in a whole new generation, it’s growth,” he said.
