While closing out the 2022 Glastonbury Festival, Kendrick Lamar wore a crown of thorns that has been estimated to be worth $200,000, Crisscut magazine reports.

The crown featured 8,000 cobblestone micro pavé diamonds, which diamond expert Maxwell Stone said is “a style that always add a great amount of depth and grandeur to a piece due to their intricate detail.” The crown also featured over 137 carats and 50 thorns of varying lengths and thickness, Vogue reports.

Stone estimated that the crown weighs 200 grams.

The headpiece complemented the message behind Lamar’s performance, which was an ode to women’s rights. According to Stone, during his set, he referenced the crown, saying that imperfection is beautiful and he wears it as a reminder.

The crown of thorns has been recognized by many as a religious motif for sin. Lamar has opened up about his Christian faith in the past, most recently throughout his latest album, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.

During his performance at the 2022 Glastonbury Festival, he tied the crown’s religious meaning with a battle cry for women’s rights, chanting “they judge you, they judge Christ. Godspeed for women’s rights” as blood appeared to drip from his head, XXL reports.

The crown was created by the rapper, his longtime creative collaborator Dave Free and Tiffany & Co. Lamar also wore the crown at the Louis Vuitton menswear show in Paris on June 23. There, he performed an ode to the late Virgil Abloh.
