A Louisville, KY mall is investigating a viral clip of a white woman yelling racial slurs at two Hispanic women inside a J.C. Penney store.
In the clip, the unidentified woman tells the cashier, “Hey, tell them to go back where they belong. If they come here to live, then act like everybody else." She went on to say, “You’re nobodies. Just because you come from another country, that don’t make you nobody. You’re nobody, as far as I’m concerned. Probably on welfare. The taxpayers probably paid for all that stuff.” She concluded her tirade by telling the women, “That’s okay, speak English you’re in America. If you don’t know it, learn it. And I’m sorry that I’m that way but you all need to realize you’re not the only ones around here.”
Administrators of Jefferson Mall posted a statement on Facebook saying, "We absolutely do not condone this type of behavior. We will work to identify this woman, and once identified, she will be permanently banned from Jefferson Mall, per our Behavioral Code of Conduct."
In a statement to The Washington Post, a J.C. Penney spokesperson said, “We regret that innocent bystanders — both other customers and a J.C. Penney associate — were subjected to such discriminatory remarks." J.C. Penney is also “asking for the community’s help in identifying the two women who were targeted for such remarks, as we would like to reimburse them for their entire purchase and offer a sincere apology for their experience.”
