Actor Kevin Hart, who plays the lead role in Netflix’s film Fatherhood, opened up about his own journey as a dad.

In a Zoom interview with Essence, the comedian spoke about not knowing how to properly do his daughter Heaven’s hair, Essence reported.

“I gotta be honest with you, I think the scenes that really popped for me are the hair ones for sure,” Hart said. “There were times when I was left with the responsibility and I just didn’t know what to do. Her hat collection is amazing.”

According to Essence, the film is an adaptation of the 2011 novel Two Kisses For Maddy: A Memoir of Love and Loss, by author Matt Logelin who is white. The movie follows Logelin, played by Hart, as he begins a new life as an unexpected widowed father and the challenges of raising a little girl alone. His daughter is played by 9-year-old actress Melody Hurd.

In the comedic and inspiring new film, Hart’s character grapples with solo parenting, going through several mishaps along the way as he figures everything out, Men's Journal reported.

“If you could have had only one parent, I wish you could’ve had your mom,” Hart said to his on-screen daughter, Maddy. “She would’ve been better at it.”

Hart recently posted a still from the movie on his Instagram.

Hart, 41, said he was drawn to the script because of its true story.

"[I was] getting to step outside of my comfort zone,” Hart said. “It gave me the tools I think I needed to really just show the progression of me and my craft.”

Hart, who is the father of four children, said while making the movie he was able to see each of his children as young people who require special attention. He said he was encouraged as a father to deliver information to them accordingly, USA Today reported.

"It’s a learning curve,” Hart acknowledged of the process.

“The opportunity to play a Black father and show a Black father in a positive light in times where it’s very less…it’s always the same story, this is one that was a little positive. It was one of want, one of need and one of love,” Hart added.
