Musician Kid Cudi honored Chris Farley and Kurt Cobain, two cultural icons who died in the 1990s, when he appeared on the latest episode of Saturday Night Live. The artist first honored Farley during his performance of "Tequila Shots," wearing a xt-shirt which featured an image of the former SNL cast member who died in 1997 at the age of 33. 

Kid Cudi also sported a green cardigan to honor Cobain, who wore the same type of outfit during Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged concert in 1993.

While performing "Sad People," the SNL guest came out in a floral dress to pay respect for Cobain. The late artist wore the floral dress on a cover of the British magazine, The Face, in 1993, HuffPost reported.

Kid Cudi said in a tweet that his dress was made by designer Virgil Abloh.

"Virgil designed the dress for me," the musician wrote. "I told him I wanted to show love to Kurt with a floral print sundress and this man made a masterpiece."

While Cobain died by suicide at the age of 27 in 1994, Farley died of a drug overdose in 1997 at the age of 33. According to CNN, the Saturday Night Live tribute came on the same week of the anniversary of Cobain's death. 

The two songs Kid Cudi performed on the show are from his new album, Man on the Moon III: The Chosen. 

The "Sad People" singer also appeared in a musical sketch on Saturday night. In the sketch titled, “Weird Little Flute," the singer and some friends prove their obsessions with wind instruments. 

In a 2018 interview with VMAN, Kid Cudi talked about people mocking him for his fashion choices. 

"I remember I wore a kilt and everyone made fun of me, like, 'Cudi wears a dress.' It was just people being ignorant," he said. "But at that time, I thought, 'hip hop is the most judgmental genre of music.' Now, you can be yourself and do your own thing. This is what I dreamed the business would be like."
