Restaurant chain K&W Cafeterias, which has been operating for 88 years, will soon close its doors for good. K&W Cafeterias announced the closure in a Facebook post on Monday.

K&W Cafeterias announced that its closing all locations across the U.S.

In its Facebook statement, K&W Cafeterias, which is owned by Texas-based restaurant management company Falcon Holdings LLC, announced that it is “closing all doors effective immediately.”

“K&W has always been more than a restaurant – it has been a gathering place, a home for Sunday traditions, and a warm table for millions of families across generations,” the restaurant stated. “We are deeply grateful for every guest who walked through our doors, shared a meal with us, and made us part of their lives.”

“Thank you for being part of the K&W family,” the statement continued. “Your support, your stories, and your loyalty over the decades have meant more to us than words can express. We are truly sorry to bring this chapter to an end, but profoundly thankful for the love you’ve shown us for nearly nine decades.”

K&W Cafeterias operated eight locations across North Carolina and one in Virginia

All those locations will now be closed, according to WRAL. The longtime eatery, which opened in Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 1937, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2020.

A K&W manager, who works at one of the Winston-Salem locations, told WFMY that he feels terrible for the restaurant’s employees. The manager said he met with the employees a few weeks ago and told them that the restaurant is doing well.

“I looked them dead in the face and said we were doing good and we were going to be great,” the manager told WFMY News 2. “And now look … My last words were a lie.”

A former K&W employee also spoke to WFMY News 2 and said over 300 employees lost their jobs as a result of the closures.
