Although he works with some of the wealthiest people in the industry, Law Roach still knows a deal.

The celebrity stylist took the fashion world by surprise earlier this month, announcing his retirement.

Although the image architect is stepping away from one role, he is stylishly walking into another– with T.J. Maxx. Roach has teamed up with the fashion retailer to work on what he calls a “predestined project.”

He has curated a fashion presentation of designer pieces from The Runway at T.J. Maxx.

The Runway at T.J. Maxx is the sector of the retail giant that houses designer pieces at an affordable value. The brand introduced the Runway 15 years ago and is now working to push affordable luxury into the forefront.

The 44-year-old stylist spoke with People about the “nostalgic” partnership. “I’ve always been a Maxxinista. I’m proud to say that because before my career blossomed, T.J. Maxx was where I would go to get a piece.”

He continued. “One of my very first designer purchases was from T.J. Maxx. When I was a student in New York, me and my best friend went into [the store]. We saw these sweaters and they were at the right price. I still remember being proud to own a little piece of high fashion. T.J. Maxx has always been there for us.”

While the collaboration is great for fashionistas that don’t have the wallet for his clients, Roach said, “re-introducing T.J. Maxx into the fashion world” means something to him too.

“I’ve been searching for something to give me a little bit more fulfillment,” he said. “I’m really proud to do it, honestly.”

He added, “The universe put two beautiful things in the same space at the perfect time. My soul has really been pointing me [and my work] to be a little bit more accessible to the people. You work so hard and you save your money, and T.J. Maxx has always made it more accessible.”

“Although I’m walking away from something that I’m known for, T.J. Maxx is still interested in working with me,” he said. “That warms my heart. It shows that I’ve brought a lot of joy to people’s lives, and I want to keep doing that, just in a different way.”

Roach told People this new role is still a great way to connect with people as he did as a stylist.

“Someone who doesn’t know about The Runway is going to hear me say it, and they’re going to find something that they fall in love with,” he continued. ” In some type of way, I’m connected to that journey and it’s just going to make me feel good.”

Roach curated a fashion presentation using merchandise from The Runway at T.J.Maxx. The Runway is available in select T.J.Maxx stores and online.

Roach suggests shoppers “don’t shop trends – try on trends” when they are browsing through the runway racks, adding “find something that really works for you. If it doesn’t work for you, leave it [behind].”

And, above everything, the top tip is, “it’s all about confidence.”
