Lee Daniels’ upcoming Netflix film The Deliverance, Daniels’ first film with Mo’Nique since Precious, adds more stars to its roster.
Netflix has released that Omar Epps, Demi Singleton, Miss Lawrence, and Anthony B. Jenkins have been added to the cast of Daniels’ horror/thriller. The film also stars Andra Day, Glenn Close, Aunjanue Ellis, Caleb McLaughlin, Tasha Smith and most notably Mo’Nique.
The comedian had been in a years-long feud with Daniels after she accused him of blackballing her after her Oscar-winning performance in Daniels' 'Precious.'
Mo’Nique replaces Octavia Spencer, who left the film due to scheduling conflicts with Season 3 of Apple TV+’s Truth Be Told. Mo’Nique has also recently ended her feud with Netflix, which she claimed discriminated against her by not paying her what she felt she was worth for a comedy special. Years after filing the suit, both parties decided to dismiss the lawsuit and settle out of court.
The film, which was originally called 'Demon House,' has been in development hell for years, but was finally bought by Netflix in a contentious auction. Netflix played a whopping $65 million for the project.
The film focuses a mother’s encounter with evil spirits. According to the logline: “Inspired by a terrifying true story, a mother fights for her life, her faith, and the souls of her children after discovering their new home is haunted by a demonic presence.”
Daniels will produce the film with Pam Williams via Lee Daniels Entertainment.
Tucker Tooley will also produce via Tooley Entertainment with Jackson Nguyen and Todd Crites through Turn Left Productions. Greg Renker, Hilary Shor, Gregoire Gensollen and Jackie Shenoo will executive produce.
Even though Mo’Nique recently started another battle with comedian D.L. Hughley, the comedian seems to be on the come-up; aside from ending her various arguments with Daniels and Netflix and scoring a new project with Daniels, Mo’Nique will also star in the upcoming season of 50 Cent’s BMF.
