2016 just keeps beating us down, even in the homestretch in seemingly one of the worst years in recent memory, it refuses to hold back. On Friday Legendary singer Sharon Jones passed away at the age of 60 years old. If some of you remember, Jones had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2013. She went through all of this surgery and went into remission nine months later, however at the premiere of her documentary Miss Sharon Jones, the legend announced that the cancer had returned.

Jones was one of the best, her and her band the Dap-Kings released seven albums since their inception in 2002. Jones created her alone lane of music that some consider dated and owned it. According to many, what made Jones the legend she is was her live shows. She will be surely missed, but below you can check out some of my favorite tracks from her and the Dap-Kings. And you can definitely expect a #HistoryLesson on one of their records before the year is up. Fun fact — one of her most popular songs “100 Days, 100 Nights” appeared on the Netflix/Marvel television show Luke Cage.
