“She is perfect and she has exactly the right look,” Dionne Warwick said Friday at Cannes Film Festival about LeToya Luckett cast as her in the upcoming biopic, Dionne. The R&B singer and star of TV One’s sitcom Here We Go Again will star alongside Lady Gaga, who is set to appear as Warwick’s British rival, Cilla Black. Danny Glover is cast in the film as Warick’s father.

Warwick’s story is long overdue, with a successful career stretching over 50 years. Warwick’s incomparable sound earned her five Grammy wins including unforgettable hits like, “Don’t Make Me Over” and “I Say a Little Prayer”. Luckett will perform Warick’s music for the soundtrack. The project has been in the works for a few years now produced by Dave Wooley, the co-writer of Warwick’s autobiography, My Life, as I See It.

The story will cover the early years of Warwick’s career from 1962 to 1968.

Does that mean no mention of the Psychic Friends Network?

Production is scheduled for later this year. Warrick says Mario Van Peebles is in talks to direct.
