With the BET Awards around the corner, Lil Nas X tweeted about his frustrations with award show nominations after learning he was not nominated for any category.

On Wednesday, the network released its list of 2022 BET award nominations–none of them, including the MONTERO artist.

The 23-year-old wrote in a since-deleted tweet, “thank you bet awards. an outstanding zero nominations again. black excellence!.”

The Industry Baby artist explained that although frustrated with the lack of nominations, he was more upset that his sexuality and race were not solid enough factors for him to feel he should have been considered.

“Idk maybe 3 of the biggest songs of last year & a critically acclaimed album,” he tweeted. “feel like that should’ve helped me a bit … not even that, doesn’t even have to be me nominated. I just feel like black gay ppl have to fight to be seen in this world and even when we make it to the top mfs try to presented we are invisible,” Lil Nas X tweeted.

Fans supported his disappointment after finding out Jack Harlow was listed in the Best male artist category alongside Drake, Future, J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West and Lil Baby.

Jack Harlow received a Grammy nomination with Lil Nas X for his Billboard charting hit Industry Baby this year.

According to Billboard, in 2020, Lil Nas X was nominated for the BET Awards’ best new artist and five BET Hip Hop Awards combined in 2019 and 2021.

Lil Nas X will receive the Hal David Starlight Award at the 2022 Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala on June 16 — making the young artist the second songwriter associated with hip-hop. In 2011, Drake was the first hip-hop artist to receive the songwriting honor.

Previous recipients of the award include stars such as Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and Halsey. Each year the award is presented to “gifted young songwriters who are making a significant impact in the music industry via their original songs.”

Lil Nas X has become one of the industry’s most significant influences–continuously pushing the envelope with his risqué music videos, critically acclaimed albums and fashion.

In 2019, his breakout single “Old Town Road,” featuring country legend Billy Ray Cyrus, the Georgia native, shook the cow boots off of country music fans for being a Black artist in the genre.
