Actor and comedian Lil Rel Howery proposed to his girlfriend, Dannella Lane, during Beyoncé’s birthday concert in Los Angeles Monday night.
The 43-year-old posted a video to his Instagram account, capturing the moments leading up to the special occasion. People reported that Howery shared a video of him taking the engagement ring out of the box and kissing it during the car ride to the venue.
The pair enjoyed the music while waiting for the Houston native to take the stage. Then, the video transitioned to both Beyoncé and Lane on the jumbo screen, where she looked over and spotted Howery down on one knee to propose.
In a subsequent clip, Lane was elated as she hugged and kissed her fiance while the audience cheered in the background. Howery took to Instagram and shared the exciting news with his followers.

He credited his close relationship with Ms. Tina Knowles, who encouraged him to pop the question during Beyoncé’s rendition of “Love on Top.” JAY-Z also shared his input by suggesting he propose on the jumbo screen to make the moment even more special.
“She gave me really good instructions” on when to propose, Howery said in the clip. However, after what seemed like a very long time to wait for the big moment, he ultimately “picked the wrong time to use the bathroom.”
“As soon as I started to use the bathroom, I started hearing [the opening notes] and I couldn’t stop my pee!” Howery revealed. “I’m rushing back. … The camera’s set up. I can’t find my seat. I don’t know why I got confused. Maybe because of the moment, I’m nervous. So I ran in and then I ran back out to retrace my steps.”
According to Essence, the couple went public with their relationship in 2022. Meanwhile, Howery will soon be married for the second time. He was previously married to his ex-wife, Verina Robinson. They were married for six years before getting divorced. The former couple also shares two children.
