It’s that time of year! The current Oscars season is in full swing quickly approaching as the full list of nominations for this yearâs Academy Awards has just been announced.
The nominations were announced live at 5:30 a.m. PT on the Academyâs website by this year’s hosts Riz Ahmed and Allison Williams. Many of the top films and actors of 2022 are leading the pack this yearâ several of which are incredible blockbusters starring Black talent.
But despite many people of color getting recognized for their contributions to the 2022 film season, there were two actors whose amazing on-screen performances did not make the list of Oscars nominees.
Both Danielle Deadwyler and Viola Davis did not receive Oscars nominations.
Considered major snubs, Deadwyler and Davis did not receive nominations for Best Actress given their portrayals in Till and The Woman King respectively.
In Till, Deadwyler starred as Emmett Till’s mother Mamie Till-Mobley whose grief, as well as her pursuit of justice, makes her an important catalyst in the civil rights movement following the 1955 lynching of her son.
As for Davis, earned rave reviews in the historical action drama film The Woman King. She starred as Nanisca, a West African general who trains the next generation of warriors to fight their enemies.
Angela Bassett and Brian Tyree Henry received their first nominations
Bassett was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Marvel’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The film also received nominations for Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, and Best Original Song for âLift Me Upâ.
As for Brian Tyree Henry, he’s received a nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Causeway.
