Lizzo delivered a message for her haters on Sunday when she won the Video for Good Award at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards. As she took the stage to accept her award for the “About Damn Time” video, Lizzo subtly addressed some comments she has been hearing about herself.

“To the b***hes that got something to say about me in the press — you know what, I’m not going to say nothing. They be like ‘Lizzo, why don’t you clap back?’ Because I’m winning, ho!” the 34-year-old said.

Lizzo’s comments come after comedian Aries Spears fat-shamed the artist when he recently appeared on a podcast.

“I can’t get past the fact that she looks like the s**t emoji,” Spears said. “She’s got a very pretty face, but she keeps showing her body off like, come on, man.”

After admitting that he’s not exactly in shape himself, Spears continued to bash Lizzo.

“When you funny and you got swagger and confidence and you decent looking — I think I’m at least handsome — you get p***y. But a woman that’s built like a plate of mashed potatoes is in trouble,” the comedian added.

Spears dug himself into an even deeper hole when he took shots at women in general.

“You know what kills me about women is the hypocrisy and the contradiction,” he said. “If you really gave a f**k, why wouldn’t you go, ‘Black girl, we love your confidence, boo boo, but this ain’t it. This ain’t it.’”

As she delivered her acceptance speech on Sunday, Lizzo also took the opportunity to address voting rights issues.

“Your vote means everything to me, it means everything to make a change in this country,” she said. “So, remember when you’re voting for your favorite artists, vote to change some of these laws that are oppressing us.”
