It’s hard to believe that two-time Grammy winner LL Cool J has never attended the annual pre-Grammy Roc Nation Brunch. Turns out, it’s not because his invite got lost in the mail.
Recently, the 55-year-old rap legend was a guest on Big Boy’s Neighborhood podcast, where he shared that he once laughed at JAY-Z during a high school rap battle. He jokingly suspects it’s why he’s never scored a coveted invite to the Roc Nation Brunch that’s hosted every year leading up to the Grammy Awards.
The funny tidbit was unveiled when LL played a self-explanatory game of “For Real For Real For False For False.” Of course, he was quick to clear up the story seconds later. “I love everybody. I don’t have no problems with none of these guys, man,” he told radio host Big Boy. “If I laughed, okay, so what? Laugh at me. How many people have you laughed at or snapped on in the lunch room?”
The father of four added, “I laughed at you so now I can’t have no brunch? I can’t have no finger food?”
The room erupted with laughter as Big Boy admitted he’s also never attended the star-studded brunch.
In case you missed it, LL commanded the stage earlier this year at the 2023 Grammys during an electrifying performance honoring hip-hop’s 50th anniversary, as Blavity previously reported.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee is also headlining Live Nation’s The F.O.R.C.E. (Frequencies of Real Creative Energy) Live tour, which kicks off in late June and runs through early September for 24 shows. What’s more, Salt-N-Pepa, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Ice T, Doug E. Fresh, and De La Soul, respectively, will join LL in select cities. It’s sure to be a treat for concertgoers!
