Louis Vuitton recently released its latest “Jamaican Stripe Jumper,” which was said to be inspired by the Jamaican flag. There’s just one problem: the colors. Jamaica’s national flag is green, yellow and black, while the three wide stripes on the menswear sweater are green, yellow and red, as reported by The Guardian.

On Twitter, @Pam_Boy decided to use the incident as a moment to speak on the importance of diversity and inclusion — or lack thereof — from the luxury retail brand, The Daily Beast reported.

“I cannot stress enough how important it is to implement diversity as a value and not a symbol within fashion companies,” the tweets read.

Cedella Marley, the daughter of Bob and Rita Marley, addressed the sweater on Instagram to express her shock at the fumble by Louis Vuitton: “Bob says that’s the Ethiopian flag @Louisvuitton”

Launched at the top of Black History Month, as reported by Insider, the product has since been removed from the original URL link amidst the viral backlash. It was reportedly described as a sweater “striped design inspired by Caribbean island’s national flag.” Later, the word “flag” was swapped for “cultural heritage,” though the item was eventually pulled from the website altogether.

“We deeply regret the error in the description on our e-commerce site and we have corrected the information. The sweater is from the spring-summer 2021 men’s collection, throughout which green, yellow and red, the colors of the Ethiopian flag and a hallmark of African independence, were used, including to pay tribute to the Ghanaian heritage of our menswear designer Virgil Abloh,” Louis Vuitton said in a statement sent to The Guardian.

Louis Vuitton has previously been under fire by the Hindu Community for their monogrammed yoga mat, as reported by Hypebae, for being “hugely insensitive” for creating the item out of cowhide leather.
