At Comic-Con International in San Diego this past weekend, Marvel Head of Television Jeph Loeb reminded audiences that a live-action TV series based on Marvel superhero Jessica Jones, is definitely still very much in development.

The initial announcement was made in December of last year, but nothing has been revealed since.

So what, you ask? Jessica Jones is a white female superhero, why should we care?

Well, comic book geeks will know that Jessica Jones was later known as Jessica Campbell Jones Cage. The last name should give you a hint as to where this is going…

You see, Jessica Jones eventually marries Luke Cage, the African American superhero, whose name has been mentioned quite a bit on this site in recent months, with the likes of Idris Elba, Tyrese Gibson and Isaiah Mustafa campaigning to play the character in a big screen adaptation. In the comic book series, the couple had a daughter as well.

And so my main interest here is whether we can expect to see Luke Cage worked into the TV series, or if they plan to focus strictly on Jones’ life prior to meeting Cage.

Well, that question was answered by Marvel Head of Television Jeph Loeb over the weekend, at Comic-Con. And he confirmed that Luke Cage WILL indeed be worked into the TV series.

How about that? We will likely see Luke Cage as a peripheral character on a TV series centered on the woman he married (also a superhero), before we actually get to see Luke Cage in a movie franchise or TV series of his own.

Melissa Rosenberg (Twilight screenwriter) is reportedly writing and executive producing the Jessica Jones TV series, which will be titled, AKA Jessica Jones, the former superhero who retires after suffering post-traumatic disorder and decides to become a private detective.

How will Luke Cage be worked into the TV series, and who are they looking to cast? Loeb didn’t say, so stay tuned.

It was supposed to debut in the fall of this year, but I don’t believe that’s still the case.
