Macy Gray and Ernie Hudson have both joined the cast of the Lifetime network’s original movie The Grim Sleeper, which is based on the case of Los Angeles’ notorious “Grim Sleeper” serial killer.
Dreama Walker will star in the film, which will be directed by Stanley M. Brooks, from a script written by Robert Nathan (Law & Order) and Teena Booth (The Drew Peterson Story).
“Grim Sleeper” is the nickname for an alleged serial killer believed to be responsible for at least ten murders, since 1985. The attacker was dubbed the “Grim Sleeper” because he appears to have taken a 14-year hiatus from his crimes, from 1988 to 2002. On July 7, 2010, a suspect, Lonnie David Franklin Jr. (photo above) was arrested. Los Angeles County District Attorney, Steve Cooley, charged him with ten counts of murder, one count of attempted murder. Franklin has not yet been convicted, nor has he stood trial due to delays by the defense.
The film adaptation’s plot will follow the investigative reporter played by Walker, who broke the story of the serial killer and coined the nickname.
No word on what character Macy Gray will play, but Ernie Hudson will play a police officer investigating the case.
Also no word on who will play Lonnie David Franklin Jr.
The Grim Sleeper is executive produced by Michael Jaffe and Joe Pichirallo. Richard Bullock and Christian Bruyere will serve as producers.
