New York City has reached a special milestone under the leadership of Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani. The special moment happened on Thursday when New York City repaired the 200,000th pothole of the year, the mayor’s office announced in a press release. The latest repair took place on Troutman Street in Bushwick as crews from the Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) collaborated with a Ra-mel, a worker who responds to pothole complaints.
New York City initially made history in April when the100,000th pothole of the year was fixed on Staten Island. That number marked the highest number of potholes the city fixed in the first 100 days of a year in more than ten years.

Mamdani said in his press release that the city is fixing about 3,000 potholes per week and “NYC DOT has paved 757 lane miles of streets across the five boroughs.”
“It’s the little things that say a lot about whether government is delivering for New Yorkers. Fixing the broken water fountain at the playground our kids love, upgrading the catch basin on the corner that always floods and, of course, making a bumpy road smooth again,” Mamdani said. “Today, we are marking 200,000 pothole repairs — a testament to the dedicated City workers who show up every day to solve New Yorkers’ problems and get the job done. That is what public service should look like.”
NYC DOT Commissioner Mike Flynn also praised the city’s effort, saying “no challenge is too big or too small.”
“We are winning the war on potholes and delivering the safe, well-maintained streets New Yorkers deserve,” Flynn said. “Thanks to the Mayor’s investment in repaving, New Yorkers should expect smoother roads ahead.”
What does the New York City’s fiscal year report reveal about Mamdani’s success?
New York City’s 2026 Fiscal Year report, released on Thursday, revealed that the city has been able to make progress in lowering costs for residents, creating more opportunities for young people and improving public safety.
“This administration came into office with a promise to make New York City more affordable, make our streets and communities safer and make government work for working people,” Mamdani said. “This year’s Mayor’s Management Report shows what happen when City Hall puts those priorities into action. We are making housing affordable, connecting more young people with jobs, putting more money back into the pockets of working families, filling more potholes and delivering the essential services New Yorkers deserve.”
According to the report, the city provided 4,742 affordable homes for formerly unhoused residents in the past year while affordable housing completions increased by 20%. In regards to public safety, the city saw a 20% drop in murders while burglaries decreased more than 9%, robberies dropped nearly 9% and auto thefts fell by more than 7%, the report states.
