Mariah Carey is out here living her best life and ruffling some feathers while doing so.
The legendary singer was photographed over the weekend, cheerfully smiling alongside controversial 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. The pop star shared the photo on Instagram that she captioned “Such an honor to meet @kaepernick7 today!”
The photo was not well-received by some of the singer's white fanbase, who vented their disappointment in the photo's comment section.

Meanwhile, other fans shared their support for the photo and came to her defense:
Mariah Carey is black. She has black children. Of course Kaepernick means something to her ❤️ Shouldn’t he mean something to us all? https://t.co/DCTvJjB6Gi

Mariah Carey poses with Colin Kaepernick and MAGA supporters lose their collective minds, promise to never listen to her again. Pretty soon they'll only be able to listen to Ted Nugent, Kid Rock or Johnny Rebel #MondayMotivation

Kaepernick’s decision to kneel during the national anthem at the 49ers 2016 preseason game has been a contentious topic for many who disagree with his stance. In protest of the ubiquitous news of police shootings of unarmed Black Americans, the 31-year-old chose to kneel. Kaepernick's movement resurged last September after Trump referred to kneeling players as "sons of b***hes."
Carey recently celebrated the release of her 15th studio album Caution earlier this month and announced an accompanying world tour that kicks off in February.
