The cast of the upcoming Robocop reboot gets even blacker!

Samuel L. Jackson and Michael K. Williams are already signed up to co-star in the film; and now Marianne Jean-Baptiste has joined them, playing Police Chief Karen Dean.

Jackson will play a character named Pat Novak, a charismatic TV mogul and a powerful force in the Robocop world; Williams play Robocop's partner.

MGM's upcoming reboot of Robocop, will be helmed by Brazilian director Jose Padilha (probably best know for Elite Squad, and its sequel).

Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) will star as the title character, and Gary Oldman will play the mad scientist who created him.

Strike Entertainment is producing the movie, which is aiming for a September shoot in Toronto, and a summer 2013 release. 

Its official synopsis reads:

In RoboCop, the year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the centre of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front.

Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilises their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex's life.

He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.

Director José Padilha (Elite Squad) reimagines the tale of part man, part machine, all cop starring Joel Kinnaman (The Killing) as the title character, Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises) as the scientist who creates RoboCop, and Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers) as media mogul Pat Novak.

The film is currently in pre-production.

The original trio of Robocop movies (1987, 1990, 1993) grossed $110 million collectively ($215 million when adjusted for inflation).
