Marla Gibbs has been cast in Kristin Hanggi's feature film directorial debut Grantham And Rose, which follows the story of 17-year-old Grantham Portnoy (to be played by Jake T. Austin) learning to become a man, with some challenges.
When a petty crime thrusts him into the company of a feisty eighty-one-year-old African-American woman named Rose Price, Grantham and Rose push the boundaries of their relationship, their lives, and what it means to love, as they take a road trip back to their roots.
Curious… especially with how exactly they "push the boundaries of their relationship."
Of course Marla Gibbs (who's also 81 years old by the way) will play the 81-year-old Rose Price, as in Grantham And Rose in the title.
I'm getting a Harold and Maude/Bonnie and Clyde mix vibe from this one.
And while it has yet to be officially, the film's Facebook page also lists Tessa Thompson on its short cast list, along with Austin, Gibbs, and Ryan Spahn. Whether or not she's confirmed to be in it, remains to be seen. The Facebook page is about 2 weeks old, so I assume the info is fairly current.
But we'll see if an official announcement comes. Until them, treat Tessa Thompson's involvement as unconfirmed.
Gibbs last appeared in Tyler Perry's Madea's Witness Protection, earlier this year.
Grantham And Rose is produced by Michael Urie, Meghan-Michele German, Evangel Fung, Ryan Spahn and Hanggi via Wonderfalls Entertainment.
Filming starts next week in Georgia.
