As the world continues to mourn the death of Jerry Springer, some celebrities are sharing their most cherished memories of the legendary TV host.
Comedian Marlon Wayans shared a video of his time on the set of The Jerry Springer Show that left fans cracking up.
On April 27, Springer’s family announced that the 79-year-old TV host died “peacefully” at his Chicago home after a battle with pancreatic cancer, according to WLWT 5. Springer once served as Cincinnati’s mayor, but he is best known for hosting his self-titled daytime talk show, The Jerry Springer Show, which aired for 27 seasons from 1991 to 2018.
Known for being the first show of its kind, thanks to its provocative content, many cultural critics credit him with creating the “trashy TV” category. In 2022, during an interview on Davide Tontef’s Behind the Velvet Rope podcast, Springer opened up and shared that this was something he later regretted.
“I just apologize,” Springer said. “I’m so sorry. What have I done? I’ve ruined the culture. I just hope hell isn’t that hot, because I burn real easy. I’m very light-complected, and that kind of worries me.”
Fellow TV hosts Maury Povich, Steve Wilkos and other celebrities paid tribute to Springer on social media after learning of his passing. Wayans was one of them, sharing two videos via Instagram of the time when he and older brother Sean Wayans visited the set of The Jerry Springer Show imitating how guests typically acted on the show.
The Wayans brothers visited Chicago to film content at The Jerry Springer Show’s studio for an episode of their 90s sitcom The Wayans Bros.
“So glad we got to do this classic episode with you in Chicago at the actual JERRY SPRINGER SHOW set,” Wayans captioned one of the video clips. “Rest well buddy. We will all be chanting JERRY! JERRY! JERRY! #ripjerryspringer.”
