Marlon Wayans has teamed up with Funny or Die founder, Randy Adams, to launch what THR calls “an urban version of” FunnyOrDie.com.
To be located at WhatTheFunny.com (or WTF), Wayans says the site will be “playground for my family and for all comedians who have something funny they want to do,” with Adams adding, “If Funny or Die is the Saturday Night Live of the web, what we’re trying to do is the In Living Color of the web,” adds Adams.
The site will officially go live in late 2013/early 2014, with hopes that it will spill over into other mediums, like cable TV.
Expect lots of original, edgy comedic shorts, as well as series with multiple episodes, not-so-unlike FunnyOrDie.com, with anywhere from 10 to 12 series ready at launch.
Adams will take what he’s learned and perfected at FunnyOrDie.com, and implement with Wayans at WhatTheFunny.com.
While the plan is to create content targeted specifically at African-Americans, their intent is to reach as wide an audience as possible.
Before the site’s launch, Wayans will spend part of his summer shooting the sequel to this year’s surprise comedy hit, Haunted House, which will be in theaters next year.
You can also catch him in Heat, playing love interest to Sandra Bullock.
