In case you haven't heard… Amazon.com, the online retailer, is in the content creation space now; actually, they've been at it for a little bit, creating Amazon Studios in 2010, for that purpose.
Via its web submission process, since its formation just over 2 years ago, the company's studio has received over 10,000 feature screenplays, and 1,800 television pilots scripts, with as many as 17 films and nine television series in active development as of last fall.
On of those projects that's moving into production is a comedy pilot titled Browsers – a musical comedy set in NYC that follows four young people as they begin their first jobs at a news website.
The cast for the pilot has been shored-up, with Marque Richardson (photo above), Dustin Ingram, Constance Wu, and Bridgette Davidovici playing the 4 young people, and veteran actress Bebe Neuwirth as their boss.
Primarily a TV actor, one of Richardson's early television highlights was a guest appearance on The Bernie Mac Show. He has appeared in series including: ER, 7th Heaven, Lincoln Heights, Rules of Engagement, a recurring role on The Starter Wife, as well as on True Blood.
Up next, catch also in a recurring role on HBO's The Newsroom when it returns this summer.
Richardson is also a national award winning tap dancer.
The pilot was written by David Javerbaum and will be directed by Don Scardino.
Amazon Studios and 3 Arts are producing.
